Today While You Shine

Today While You Shine

If TODAY... I make you smile
Then my day has been worth WHILE
As when YOU smile to others bright
The day will SHINE a golden light
And as that light begins to beam
A billion smiles shall be seen
All because I smiled at you
The whole world smiled too

Highs of Nature

Highs of Nature

When you need to get high
As your world is so low
Its proof of the limits the spirit will go
As once you are THERE
And you've reached to the top
Beware of the heights and your guaranteed drop
But breathe in the air... Escape to a view
Then wonderful things shall be planted in you
Inspiration... A need to excel
The gifts born of nature will serve just as well
As all that is free comes delivered to you
And a cleansed soul will then see you on through

The ONE

The ONE

I released her like a bird
I loved her... so I set her free
Then I would know if she was the ONE...
By her flying back home to me
If she did... Then I would embrace her
As her heart had returned to me
If not... Then I was the one released
As WE were not mean't to be

Where Freedom Dwells

Where Freedom Dwells

Freedom beckoned me from birth

Nature... The voice that called my name

In the breeze
Through the air
The grass whispered to me
The sun guided and encouraged
Flowers breathed the sweetest songs
(An enchantment that could never be bottled)
They enticed me with their charm
Surrounded in beauty... Made me feel beautiful
Bricks and cement just disfigured
Here, the trees are towering friends
Rugged statues of ancient kings...
Absorbing the heat of their goddess
Storing the gift of life itself
In their petrified stance hides an abundance of wealth
Where only age and the seasons transform...
Lush greens, earth browns, fire reds, golden yellows
Gracing the canopies high
Before laying mosaics on the earth
Enriching, feeding, sheltering, colouring
Returning all to life's only mother
She who gives all... Yet demands nothing
I stand in silence and close my eyes
I am in ore
As my soul is healed
Her heartbeat re-balances my vehicle form
Chakras align
Aura cleansed
Spirit renewed
Here... I am part of the universe
And this is where freedom dwells

Kind of Man

Kind of Man

Would I lie for you... Would I try for you?
Well thats something I could do
But don't expect me to lay down and die for you!
I'm not THAT in love with you
While were together I'll do everything I can
But just remember darlin'... That I'm only a man
I'll give you my all... but keep whatever I can
That's just the kind of man that I am

Would I sing for you... Do those things to you?
Well I'd do that night or day
But don't think that I'd ever try and swing for you
I get sea sick anyway!
But while we're together I'll do anything for you
I'll even try to do the things that no one else would do
I'll steal you some diamonds ... But I'll keep me a few
That's just the kind of man that I am

Would I smile for you... Run a mile for you?
Like I've done for you before
I've got myself a kind of testing trial for you
Would you do it? I'm not sure
But while we're together would you do something for me?
Remember I'm a man and men just like to agree
If you said you need a new one... That's ok by me
That's just the kind of man that I am

If I Knew

If I Knew

If I followed my footsteps and swallowed my pride
Would they lead me discreetly to the place where I died?
If I sat down and knew I had one step to go
Would I get to my feet maybe stick out a toe?
Knowing i'd die if I tripped and I fell
Would I take that one step... I can't tell!

If I knew of the time and the day and date
Would I put my clock back and pretend I was late?
If I knew that my heart would just stop like a brake
Would it even be worth trying to keep me awake?
Knowing i'll die when the timing was right
Would I care if my ending...  Was day or was night?

If angels did come and they knocked at my door
Would I tell them that I know what they came here for?
If I knew I could fool them by running away
Would they only return on the following day?
Maybe its time to just stick out that toe
Let my footsteps take me to wherever I go
And if for some reason I come off my track
I should still be on course when I put myself back

Bad Day Blues

Bad Day Blues

I went to see a doctor, he said "You don't look well"
I said "Why! What's the matter?"
He said "Boy, you look like hell"
I told him it was nothing
This was just the way I've always been
He said "I got no pills to cure the strangest man that I've ever seen!"

I visited an optician and she said I couldn't see
I said that I'd just seen a car...
It pulled right out on me!
"How come if I'm so blind...
Did I manage to jump out of its way?"
She said "Well... I don't know! I guess this must be your lucky day"

I bumped into a cop outside
And he gave me some advice
He said I'd need an ambulance
Or a beating would suffice
I said "It was an accident... I'm sorry if I stepped upon your feet"
Well...He locked me in handcuffs, said "You shouldn't even be walkin' the street"

When I got out it was dark outside
I needed me a feast
I popped into a church to get directions from a priest
He tried to fill my spirit with a little piece of Host
But a pizza is the thing that I'd been craving the most
My stomach it was rumbling and I really had to fly
I said "I'll call back later on" but that was maybe a lie

I met an undertaker...
Could this day get any worse
He measured me to see if I might fit inside his hearse
I told him I'm not ready, I wont be needing him today
He said "I'll see you later son" but before I got away
He gave me a wink... And then he handed me his card
It read he drove a taxi cab and that his name was Bernard

Could I be going crazy?
Am I already mad?
This had to be the weirdest day I ever had
I told the driver where to go... I said to be sure
"Take me to the doc Bernard, he could've found a cure"
Well Bernie he just smiled and said "I'll get you there quick
'Cause you ain't looking' too good my friend... You're  lookin'  kinda sick"

Looking For Somebody

Looking For Somebody

I've searched for inspiration
But I only find frustration
I'd give a small donation
Just to fix my strange fixation
I'm looking for somebody... is there anybody hearing my plea?
As I have a weird sensation
And I need some confirmation
That this ain't no fascination
Or some freak hallucination
I'm looking for somebody and I'm hoping they might help me to see
'Cause I've lost coordination
And I'm on this reservation
Where they still have segregation
Can you give an explanation?
I'm looking for somebody who won't charge an astronomical fee
To repair my reputation
Maybe help with relocation
Where theres no discrimination
Or a plastic generation
I'm looking for somebody... Somebody that could only be me!

Along the way

Along the way

I never thought you'd ever go away girl
Although I never thought you'd stay
I always thought your crying was a play girl
I didn't care much anyway
My heart never broke and my tears didn't fall
In fact I didn't feel very sad at all
I kind of celebrated that I never had to crawl
Begging you'd not go along the way

I never said I'd promise you a life-time
I never was that sure
I guess you could have given me a life-line
I couldn't ask for any more
So know your bags are packed and you're walkin'' out the door
I guess that I don't have to stick around here anymore
I'll stick out my thumb, as that's what thumbs are for
And I might see you along the way

Before you go, pretty girl... Theres something I should say
Speakings pretty hard these days, but I'll say it anyway
Although you might not know it, you're the best I ever had
To have you close around these years,  it hasn't been bad
But breaking up should make you feel a little bit glad
So try to keep your smile along the way

Friends

Friends

When you called out my name did you think that I'd come?
Did it cross your mind I might turn and run?
If I lied, said I came as I needed a friend
Would you try to oblige and pretend
As I am the one who did answer your call
The one that you'd treat as a fool
As when I needed you, you were gone like a shot
And "No" was the answer that I got

When you wanted advice and I gave you my thoughts
Did it please you that I took the time?
If I spoke how I felt, if I talked outta line
Well I guess I was speaking my mind
But I was the one that did try helping you
And when I needed someone to help me!
You just walked away, you slammed my door shut
And "No" was the answer that I got

When I cried at your grave watched the flowers wilt and die
I wonder did you ever hear me sigh?
As I am the only one who comes around here
Sometimes I ask myself the reasons why
As I know that you would forget about me
I'd be the last friend you'd think to see
So maybe you are thinking you're the only friend I've got!
"Well no... but I'm the only one YOU'VE got"

Questions Not Asked

Questions Not Asked

What was it like when the first baby cried?
What did they do when it died?
How did it feel when the first lover sighed?
Or when love might have been then denied!
Was it frightening to witness the first drop of rain?
Do you think it may have caused people pain?
I guess these are questions that no one thinks to ask
Because they're just part of the past

What did they do when the first snowflake fell?
Did they think that their heaven was now hell?
And what did they make of the thundering skies?
Could it be they were under a spell!
And when stars were a-fallin' did they know they had died?
Or think that they had simply come untied!
I guess these are questions that no one thinks to ask
Because they're just part of the past

How many men went to fight the first war?
How many men did they kill?
Did they find all the answers that started it all?
Did they care for the ones who had fell?
And what did the mothers do when sons did not return?
You'd think that from this one time we might learn
But I guess these are questions that no one thinks to ask
Because they're just part of the past

Guernsey Monopoly

Guernsey Monopoly

I joined in with a game of Guernsey Monopoly
Around the table deputies surrounded poor me
They dealt out all the money, two for them, one for me
I knew I'd never win or get let out of jail free
But I thought I'd try my best and see just how I might do
I even thought I'd see if I could help the locals out too

Well...
I chose to use the top hat thinking I'd look pretty swank
Another used the Rolls Royce, sat in front of the bank
He covered stolen hotels just in case I might see
And when I landed on them, he did jump like a flea
He took all my money, left me pretty much broke
He was drooling with excitement through his cigarette smoke

I pulled out hidden money and I paid all my fines
The rent was pretty high but that's the sign of the times
I gave the dice a lucky shake but I rolled out a one
This game was getting tedious... it wasn't much fun
The banker stacked his profit, kept one eye on the board
Knowing Mill Street was the only place that I could afford

He handed me the deeds and with a smile on his face
He said he'd knock down Mill Street put some flats in its place
Maybe add more offices... and a higher class café
All to be paid for, from the average workers pay
A deputy bought Fermain just to have a good life
As his girlfriend lived down Cobo far away from his wife

One of them grabbed Fort George just to show off his wealth
This game was getting real, it wasn't good for my health
The price to see the doctor, man... It cost me a house
Seemed everyone was after me, like cats verses mouse
There seemed to be more roads closed and they happened to be mine
They passed me with diversions ... Time after time

I threw myself a six at last and I passed Fort George by
A move without no profit, man... I thought he might cry
But when I came up trumps... and I bought myself Vale
Well they all got pretty mad and threw my arse into jail
Knowing that a jail card I never did own
I decided that I'd stay here... End the game with a home

Painful Love

Painful Love

She broke the table, hit the floor
She know not why he hit her for
She felt the bump upon her head
She saw her fingers bloody red
She noticed sadness in his eyes
She never let him hear her cries
She stood and walked out of the door
She knew that she'd return for more
She hated him in times like these
She knew that he'd be begging "Please"
She always fell for him again
She loved this man who showed her pain
She always hoped he'd change one day
She longed for words he used to say
She loved the man and he loved her
She wanted back what they once were
She dreamed of days he used to smile
She hadn't seen that face a while
She found a quiet place to cry
She raised her sleeve to dry her eye
She thought about her man alone...
She turned and went back home

Freedom Road

Freedom Road

I walked along a country road
When I met an unknown friend
He'd travelled many miles
His journey had no end
I said "I'd like to join you...
Just nod if you'll agree"
He whispered in a soft voice
"The road ahead is free"

"We are travellers
Through this learning time
Nothing here is yours
Nothing here is mine
And as we wonder
Down our chosen road
Leave your problems far behind
As they are your heavy load"

I said "This may sound crazy...
But I don't know who I am.
No one seems to know me...
No one gives a damn"
My friend he looked me in the eyes
Said "You have a soul that's true...
The only friend you need right now...
Is one that walks with you"

"We are travellers
Through this learning time
Nothing here is yours
Nothing here is mine
And as we wonder
Down our chosen road
Leave your worries far behind
As they are your heavy load"

I listened to the silence
As if to ease my mind
I'd come to seek my freedom
A place thats hard to find
While gazing on a sunset
The sky above turned red
"If you wake to see the rising sun...
Your there" my new friend said

"We are travellers
Through this learning time
Nothing here is yours
Nothing here is mine
And as we wonder
Down our chosen road
Leave your troubles far behind
As they are your heavy load"

We came upon a mountain
My feet were worn and tired
It only took the summit view
To be instantly inspired
The steps that raised us skyward
Left footprints on the ground
"We'll leave them there" my friend did say
"For others freedom bound"

"We are travellers
Through this learning time
Nothing here is yours
Nothing here is mine
And as we wonder
Down our chosen road
Leave your burdens far behind
As they are your heavy load"

And when we reached the heavens
We gazed upon our miles
Our journey ended silently
With just a nod and smiles
He carried on his own way
Maybe we'd meet again sometime
Another road now stretched ahead
This freedom road of mine

"We are travellers
Through this learning time
Nothing here is yours
Nothing here is mine
And as we wonder
Down our chosen road
Leave all you're fears behind
As they are your heavy load"

Fireside Friend

Fireside Friend

Come gather round the fire
I got somethin' to tell
These flames that do warm you
Once burned in my hell
These flickering shadows
That dance at your feet
Don't get any closer or you'll die in the heat
A demon once told me
He would mess with my brain
His constant remarks
Did drive me insane
But I took him aside
So that others won't hear
And I told him his torment was not what I fear
He then left me in silence
And I thought that I'd won
Without his demands
I did lower my gun
These flames that burn brightly
These shadows you see
Are all that is left of the devil in me
Now I called you to tell you
That my contract is signed
But I still need a friend
And if you'd kindly mind
My story may scare you
It may fill you with fright
But I promise that I'll keep you warm every night

The Wind Shall Turn

The Wind Shall Turn

You're rich and you show it so that others might see
You think that your wealth can intimidate me
Well I want you to know that I'd hate to be you
As I could not do to others all the hurt that you do
You reap the rewards from another mans seeds
You'd take his hard labour to enhance your own needs
But your needs they are pointless, they are not aimed to please
You'd rather buy a new car than to help cure disease
When you are a-sleepin' do you dream of you wealth?
Do you tally your fortune? That you keep for yourself
You just don't realise that you could help a soul
If you hadn't made greed your life's ultimate goal
But you will die the same, and your plastic will melt
It's a pity you'll not know just how burning felt
Your ashes will blow... And the wind it shall turn
Then you'll know what it's like when your spirit returns
You will wished that you'd helped more in your previous life
That you'd helped save another instead of going under a knife
You paid to get ugly and I hope you do see
That your coffin was not worth the life of a tree
And I hope that you feel it, that every tear counts
The money you squandered in obscene amounts
I hope never find you when you hold out your hand
And those pains deep inside make you then understand

Lords of the Lies

Lords of the Lies

Come you government men... admit you deceive
You read out your speeches you want me to believe
Then you screw up your papers... toss them in a bin
Now that you have all your votes you won't need them again
The things you did promise... Is not what you give
You see the rich thriving, while the poor they can't live
You take what you can to stay in your chair
You'd leave people hungry with their food cupboards bare
Yet you just get fat, from swallowing your lies
The blinkers get bigger... That cover your eyes
You see what you want, you don't see what we need
As we are not part of your profit and greed
What will you do now? Now we know what you do
You who do nothing, unless its outcome suites you
Yet it's us that are living with the things you've not done
Why don't you pack your briefcase with our money and run?
So who do we vote for? These lords of the lies
They practice deceit, they can't look in our eyes
They smile and they talk much but fakeness shall show
And when our stomachs are empty it's then we will know
We were fooled again... we chose the wrong man
The promises made, to do all that he can
None of that matters and I'm sure you'll agree
Much would be done if you'd voted for me

Un-Welcome Guest

Un-Welcome Guest

You who bring with you conflict
You who bring with you war
You who bring with you sorrow
Stay away from my door
You who bring with you sadness
You who bring with you fear
You will never be  welcome, get the hell outta here
You who bring with you rage
You who bring with you blame
You who bring with you envy
You and I ain't the same
You who bring with you trouble
You who bring with you greed
You will never be any friend I'll ever need
You who bring with you torment
You who bring with you lies
You who bring with you trouble
I can tell by your eyes
You who bring with you hatred
You who bring with you pain
You can turn right around and don't come back again

Fist or Resist

Fist or Resist

It takes a strong man to turn... Walk away
It doesn't show strength that to fight is ok
The strength of man lies in the gentlest of hand
A fist is for someone who can't understand
That fighting does not show the power in men
It just shows the weakness that dwells within them
So thrive on that weakness thats caused by your fist
Or smile at your strength when you choose to resist

Old Rocking Chair

Old Rocking Chair

I sat in the sun on an old rocking chair
The breeze blew the threads of my white wispy hair
My eyes that were failing gazed over the land
For a moment I felt her still holding my hand
I gave her a smile as if she were right there
Sitting by me in my old rocking chair
Which creaked to and fro on the porch where she'd died
Yet I swear at this moment she is here at my side
I told her I loved her and let out a sigh
And I thanked her for always remaining near-by
It proved that she loved me and truly did care
For this lonely old man in his old rocking chair

She Might Just Succeed

She Might Just Succeed

Trees are brought down... Trees they do fall
And one day there wont be no trees left at all
The forests of future they cannot withstand
The damage we do to this beautiful land
Yet if everyone planted just one little seed
Then our world... She might just succeed

The oil we take... The oil we burn
When we've drained the world dry then I guess we will learn
That oil is not here for profit and wealth
The planet she needs for the good of her health
If we took just a little for the things that we need
Then our world... She might just succeed

The rubbish we bury... The trash that we hide
We take the worlds gifts... put our poisons inside
Where nothing can grow in pollution and mess
A flower can't bloom in the soils of distress
If we enrich the grounds from the strangling weed
Then our world... She might just succeed

The wars that are raging... The wars which we fight
Can none of us just get along and unite?
As where is the answer when so many die?
The answers a question that question is Why!
If we stop all the hatred so others don't bleed
Then our world... She might just succeed

Some they have nothing... Some they have all
How can the rich be so ruthless and cruel?
When children are dying with no food in hand
To save them is something they can't understand
If they could only take time from a moment of greed
Then our world... She might just succeed

Now writers and poets who speak with a pen
Our chance is this moment that won't come again
So talk all you will so that others may hear
Or an ending is possibly all that is near
So write with a truth thats not meant to mislead
And our world ... She might just succeed
